Humorous new words for life and business from Mark Edward Brown

A friend of mine recently sent me some new words and I wanted to share them with you.  They apply both to life and business, some of them are humorous and some just downright tragically truthful:

* SEAGULL MANAGER:

A manager who flies in, makes a lot of noise, craps on everything, and Then leaves.

* ASSMOSIS:

The process by which people seem to absorb success and advancement by sucking up to the boss rather than working hard.

* SALMON DAY:

The experience of spending an entire day swimming upstream only to get screwed and die.

* CUBE FARM:    An office filled with cubicles.

* PRAIRIE DOGGING:

When someone yells or drops something loudly in a cube farm, and people’s heads pop up over the walls to see what’s going on. (This also applies to applause for a promotion because there may be cake.)

* SITCOMs:

Single Income, Two Children, Oppressive Mortgage. What yuppies turn into when they have children and one of them stops working to stay home with the kids or start a ‘home business’.

* SINBAD:  Single working girls. Single income, no boyfriend and desperate.

* PERCUSSIVE MAINTENANCE:

The fine art of whacking the crap out of an electronic device to get it to work again.

* ADMINISPHERE:

The rarefied organisational layers beginning just above the rank and file. Decisions that fall from the ‘adminisphere’ are often profoundly inappropriate or irrelevant to the problems they were designed to solve. This is often affiliated with the dreaded ‘administrivia’ – needless paperwork and processes.

* 404:

Someone who’s clueless. From the World Wide Web error message ’404 Not Found’ meaning that the requested document could not be located.

* OH – NO SECOND:

That minuscule fraction of time in which you realize that you’ve just Made a BIG mistake (e.g. you’ve hit ‘reply all’).

* JOHNNY-NO-STARS:

A young man of substandard intelligence, the typical adolescent who works in a burger restaurant. The ‘no-stars’ comes from the badges displaying stars that staff at fast-food restaurants often wear to show their level of training.

* MONKEY BATH:   A bath so hot, that when lowering yourself in, you go: ‘Oo! Oo! Oo!
Aa! Aa! Aa!’.

If any of these new phrases ring true with you, leave me a comment so we can talk about it,

Mark Edward Brown

P.S.  I added a new video that should cause some deep thinking!

Changes to The Connection, Leadership and Networking Blog

I made a few changes to the blog today:

changed the theme color to green to represent the season of growth that we are entering into.  Spring is just around the corner and I hope that you are still growing and learning.  The color green represents so many things, two things that it represents to me are growth and money so I wish the most of both for you.

I also added a video clip from John Maxwell on Leadership, I look up to John as a trusted advisor and his advice and life lessons on leadership are right on the mark so take a few moments to watch the video and leave me a comment if you like it or not.

I mentioned this in a previous post however, it’s a recent change so I wanted to remind you of it also.  I added the top 3 books that I recomend right now, currently they are all about leadership and if you click on the book you can read more about it and purchase it at amazon.com

That is all for now, stop back soon for more valuable connection, leadership and networking knowledge,

Mark Edward Brown
