The Essence of Leadership

Leadership image

“The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision.  It’s got to be a vision you  can articulate clearly and forcefully on every occasion.  You can’t blow an uncertain turmpet.”     – Father Theodore Hesburgh, University of Notre Dame

The quote you just read is so powerful and if you take the time to really think about it and apply it to your life you will really be able to sum up why you are of should be a leader plus it will help you to focus your vision for you life and purpose.

I read this quote in a book that I will be reviewing here on the blog soon, it’s called Leadership – Texas Hold’em Style by Andrew J. Harvey, Ed.D  and Raymond E. Foster, MPA

Apply this to your life and let me know how it works,

Patriotism and Leadership

Following is a quote from Adlai Stevenson who was an Ambassador to the United Nations back in 1961 to 1965.  The sentiment contained in this short quote sums up my feelings of the importance of being a patriotic leader.

“Patriotism is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.”            – Adlai Stevenson

Defining Culture, Networking and Leadership

Success  Websters Online Dictionary defines Culture as – “the act of developing the intellectual and moral faculties especially by education”.

In order to properly define it in relation to leadership and networking one must be continuously learning and improving through proper education.  Many people learn by seeing, hearing, and doing so how do you get the most out of your pursuit of becoming a better conector, networker and leader?

Virtually all people that I talk to want to work for a company, person or themselves, in an environment where they can feel fullfilled and have a balanced life.

You only have on average 25,550 days to live so subtract the number of days you have lived so far to see how much time you have left to make a difference either in your own life or some one elses.

*Note: I dont recomend that you try to help some one else until you have helped yourself and you are certain that you are following your life’s true calling.

With that being said, let’s examine some ways to define your best culture.

First, start with getting the right training for your life situation and if you don’t like it find out how to change it.  I know that for some people it is easier said than done so feel free to coment with any questions that you have.

Next, analyze your current situation and compare it with where you want to get to so that you can begin to establish a map for your journey.

A great way to stay on track and get affirmation for what you want to do is to form a support group of sorts by telling people who are interested in your life. You can also join forums and read world class blogs like this for assistance along the way.

One of the true keys to getting what you want is to simply ask for it!  I know that is not profound or complicated however it can be if the person you have to get approval from is yourself and you do not know if you are ready to succeed.

That is why you must communicate to everyone that you are seeking change and you must demand their support and  leadership, in order to bring about that change and balance that your life requires.

Help your support group understand that not all people think like you do and that your focus must remain on you while you are in the process of making this change for the better.  Remember that your enthusiasm, drive and desire are contagious so be aware of how other people around you act and re-act as you change for the better.

Any change that you wish to bring about will have a greater chance of success with momentum, so getting started, staying focused and maintaining momentum is key.

The methods mentioned above are effective tips that have helped and enhanced the culture of various networkers and leaders that I have worked with in the past and present. Obviously, these are not the only things one can do to improve but the tips above will provide you with a good starting point.
