Jogging is something I have done for as long as I can remember. One of the constant themes that runs throughout my life is my enjoyment of jogging and running. Ever since I was a toddler I have been on the go in one way shape or form. I have a naturally thin build and was blessed with runners lungs, so to speak.
As a kid before I ever had a bicycle, I ran. I ran so much that when I couldn’t run anymore I would just keep jogging. My mentality was and still is, as long as I can put one foot in front of the other and I’m not incapacitated with pain, I can keep going.
In junior high school and high school I was in cross country in the Fall and track in the Spring. Part of the reason I have always enjoyed jogging is the time to be alone with my thoughts. It’s the one place I can confront my true “self”. Me, myself, and I can work through virtually any aspect of internal dialogue that comes to mind.
After High School, I enlisted in the Army and ran & marched everywhere. I enjoyed serving the nation and getting paid to run, march, and jog. Even on my last physical fitness test, I received the maximum score for running at a fast pace. 🙂
To jog or not to jog!
When I retired from the Army I did slow down a little bit. I continue to jog because it’s what I’ve always done and enjoy doing. Don’t get me wrong, I experience aches and pains due to injuries and all the miles I’ve put on my legs, but they haven’t failed me yet so I will keep on keeping on.
I jogged the other day and I am on pace to get my time right at or under the 8 minute per mile mark which is not to bad for a middle age guy like me. As long as I can get out of bed and breathe I will keep on shuffling down the road.
