Important Facebook Tip from Mark Edward Brown

I just learned about an important new setting that you may want to adjust in your Facebook account.  There is a new Facebook privacy setting called “Instant Personalization” that is being rolled out in everyone’s accounts.

This means that Facebook will be sharing your personal information with external or third party websites.  Some people don’t seem to think this is such a bad idea however I think it’s going just a little to far and that is why I want you to know about it.

The new setting shares your data with non-Facebook sites and it’s automatically set to “Enabled”.  If you want to stop your personal info from being shared with the Universe then log into your FB account and:

Go to Account >

Privacy Settings >

Apps & Websites >

Instant Personalization >

Edit settings and uncheck “Enable instant personalisation on partner websites”

*Warning – If your friends don’t do this, they will be sharing info about you as well, so make sure you forward this on to everyone you know and care about.

If you found this tip helpful and want to learn more social networking tips then leave a comment and let me know.  If you have a cool tip to share as well then let me know also.

All the best in your social networking endeavors,

Mark Edward Brown

    Thank you again Mark,
Will share definitely, I wonder how could they have right to do that without notification?

  2. Hi Sasha,
When you sign up for virtually any social networking site, “the small print” states that any information, photos, video’s etc becomes the property of that social network. There is very little privacy in social networking – some like it / some don’t.

Thanks for your comment just the same – Mark
